Privacy
Short version: we collect only what we need to check a report, we don't sell anything, your email is used only to follow up, and photos are kept longer than the rest of a report as evidence. You can ask us to delete your report, photo or email address at any time at report@shelfgone.com. Last updated 2026-10-18.
The report form
When you send a report we receive what you type into the form: product, brand, store or retailer, your city/state or country, what you saw, any link and notes, and, if you choose, an email address and one photo. We also receive the technical details that come with any web request (such as your IP address), which our form host uses to filter spam.
Photos
A photo is optional. We use it to check your report and as evidence supporting a product's status. Because of that, we keep photos longer than the rest of a report (see How long we keep it below). We don't publish photos on the site without your permission, and we don't sell or share them. Please don't send photos where people's faces or other personal details are visible.
An email address is optional. We use it only to review and follow up about your report. We never share it, and we never add it to the newsletter.
How long we keep it
Reports sit in a private queue until we review them by hand. Text details and email addresses are used only to review the report and follow up with you.
Email address: we delete it once your report has been reviewed, unless you ask us to keep in touch with you about it.
Photos: a photo submitted with a report is kept for as long as the related entry is listed on ShelfGone, plus a reasonable period afterwards, which is up to 12 months after the entry is removed. We keep it as evidence supporting the product's status. You can ask us to delete your photo at any time (see below).
What may appear on the site is the product information, the status and the source links that support it. It does not include your email address, and it does not include your photo unless you have given us permission.

No selling
We don't sell or rent your information, and we don't run ads based on it.
Who handles the data
ShelfGone is hosted on Netlify, which receives and stores form submissions for us. The form's captcha is Google reCAPTCHA, provided through Netlify, so Google's code loads on the report page.
The newsletter
The Gone Shelf newsletter is run on beehiiv, and subscribing happens on beehiiv's page, not through our report form. beehiiv's handling of your information is described in beehiiv's privacy policy.
