About ShelfGone & how we verify
ShelfGone is a crowd-reported tracker of discontinued vegan staples. Every entry shows its source and a last-checked date, and we re-check entries every 90 days.
The four statuses
Rumored. One report so far. We list it so people can compare notes, but it isn't confirmed.
Store-level. Reported gone from stores in two or more cities, or backed by a photo. It may still exist elsewhere.
Discontinued. Confirmed by the brand or retailer, or reported by a reputable outlet.
Changed. The version first reported as gone was replaced, reformulated or relaunched, and a product with the same name is still sold. We use it when a retailer's own page shows a current product but we cannot tell whether it is the same recipe or pack. Each entry's “What changed” text says exactly what we found.
Where a report turns out to be wrong or out of date, we re-check the retailer's own page and a reputable outlet, then correct the status or remove the entry.
How reports are handled
- Every report is reviewed by hand before it appears on the site. Nothing is published automatically.
- A link or photo helps. Reports with no link or photo may be declined, or listed only as Rumored.
- The report form is protected with a captcha and a hidden spam trap. See our privacy page for what the form collects.
- Brands can send corrections; we aim to reply within 48 hours.
Sponsors never control replacements
We may one day offer paid, clearly labeled “Sponsored replacement” slots. Sponsors never control statuses or our editor's picks. Paid placements always appear in a separate box with a Sponsored label, like this:
Example only — no sponsor yet. This is how a paid replacement would look.

How we pick replacements
Replacement picks are editorial and not sponsored. No brand has paid for, requested or previewed a pick, we use no affiliate links, and we did not contact any company. Each product gets one to three picks, only when we could confirm (1) a comparable product exists and is currently sold, (2) it is vegan or dairy-free, as labeled on the brand's own page or a retailer listing, and (3) there is a review, outlet article or brand page to back the comparison. We prefer US availability, and use UK options for UK-only products. Each pick says why it fits and links its sources.
Where we could not verify a comparable replacement, the page says “Not verified” instead of guessing. Picks are a starting point, not a guarantee: stock varies by store and review dates differ, so check the label and your local retailer.
About the data
Version 1 contains 30 products from our starting seed list, each linked to the article or thread that reported it. “Last checked” shows when the entry was last reviewed on ShelfGone. Spot an error? Tell us.
